Laphonza Butler Sworn In as New Senator from California

She commits “to work for women and girls, workers and unions.“

Laphonza Butler was sworn in as the new senator from California this week, filling in the seat left behind by the late Senator Dianne Feinstein. She was sworn in by Vice President Harris and was greeted by the Senate majority and minority leaders after the ceremony.

Senator Butler previously served as a senior advisor to Kamala Harris’s 2020 presidential campaign, as well as the president of EMILY’s List, a political action committee dedicated to electing pro-abortion women into office.

“No one will ever measure up to the legacy of Senator Dianne Feinstein, but I will do my best to honor her legacy and leadership by committing to work for women and girls, workers and unions, struggling parents, and all of California,” Senator Butler stated following the ceremony. “I am ready to serve.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Butler to be discerning as she settles into her new position representing California in the Senate.
  • For the Senate majority and minority leaders to seek God’s direction as they head the upper chamber of Congress.
